Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift — Universal’s Next Big Coaster

Universal Studios Hollywood is turning up the excitement with Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, a brand-new high-speed, outdoor roller coaster slated to open in 2026. Based on the blockbuster Fast & Furious film franchise, this coaster is shaping up to be one of the boldest thrill additions in years — featuring launch elements, 360° spinning vehicles, over 4,100 feet of track, and speeds up to 72 mph as you feel like you’re right in the middle of a high-stakes street race.

What’s especially interesting is what this ride is replacing. For decades, Universal Studios Hollywood’s Studio Tour — the park’s signature behind-the-scenes experience — included a final segment called Fast & Furious: Supercharged. That attraction, which opened in 2015, put guests aboard a studio tram as they joined Dom, Letty, Roman, and the rest of the crew in a 3-D chase sequence through a party and a wild escape from villains. It closed on March 10, 2025 to make room for the new coaster project.

But even before Supercharged, the Studio Tour featured other themed segments: Fast & Furious: Extreme Close-Up was part of the tram experience from 2006 to 2013, giving guests a peek at filmmaking and props from the movies. And long before any Fast & Furious element, the tour itself was built around Hollywood backlot sets and effects that were classic to Universal’s legacy entertainment.

In addition to displacing Supercharged, the space for Hollywood Drift involved the removal of a couple of older live attractions in the park’s Upper Lot — including Animal Actors on Location and the Special Effects Stage — which both closed in early 2023 to clear the way for this massive coaster footprint.

So what can you expect when you visit? Hollywood Drift will launch riders from a garage-style station into twists, airtime hills, inversions, and high-speed turns with vehicles styled after iconic cars from the films, including Dominic Toretto’s legendary Dodge Charger. The cars will spin independently, simulating the sensation of drifting as you race through the course that crosses over parts of the park and even above the famous escalators connecting the Upper and Lower Lots.

Universal has announced the attraction is scheduled to open sometime in 2026, with more specific timing expected to be revealed as construction and testing continue.

Whether you’re a coaster junkie or a Fast & Furious fan, this is one ride you’ll want to try when you visit Universal Studios Hollywood in 2026 — and you can plan for soft openings and previews early in the year before the full grand opening later in the season.
